As I reflect on what has been the catalyst for me to become the happiest man in the universe, I realize that I’ve been fortunate enough to have a lot of positive people around me. It’s not something that I necessarily sought out intentionally, but rather something that just happened naturally. And I’m grateful for that.
I’m not sure if it’s because of the positive people around me rubbing off on me or if it’s simply because I feel better when I have a positive attitude, but either way, it’s made a big difference in my life. As a kid, I remember thinking about what I wanted to be remembered for. Even at less than 10 years old, I had a dream and an ambition for myself – I wanted to be remembered as someone who was generous and giving.
And that’s something that I’ve always tried to live up to. It’s not necessarily about being generous financially, but more about being generous with my time, my attention, and my energy. I believe that by giving of myself to others, I’m able to make a positive impact on their lives and in turn, it makes me feel good about myself.
But here’s the thing – in order for me to be in a position to give of myself to others, I need to be in a good place myself. I need to be true to myself first, honest with myself first, and keep my word to myself first. That’s why I believe in the importance of self-care and self-improvement. I need to take care of myself first so that I can be in a position to help others.
